WGTB is proud to have been associated with Joanne Morley for the past seven years in her annual Challenge for Juniors which is now a fixture in the list at her home club Sale.

Joanne has always been keen to develop her professional career in helping the development of junior golf and this is a theme she is looking to continue when she finishes her distinguished playing career which is a shining example for up and coming junior golfers.

She began her career at Altrincham Municipal Golf Club as a 14-year-old student at Ashton-on-Mersey High School who was very keen on sport excelling in tennis and swimming. But with the encouragement of her mum Jean she quickly developed her love for golf and soon showed an amazing talent, before moving to join Sale Golf Club.

There the amateur honours flowed with county junior titles and then full county success, which developed at regional and national level.

Her achievements and exploits are well presented at the Sale Golf Club and their ladies are proud to play for the Joanne Morley Solheim Cup putter each year as one of their ‘major’ competitions.

Joanne was European, British and English ladies champion reaching a handicap of plus five and the highlight of her amateur career was to play in the victorious Curtis Cup team at Royal Liverpool in 1992.

She took the plunge into professional ranks in 1994 and did well on the European Ladies Tour, winning the German Open and was selected for the Solheim Cup team which played at St Pierre against the USA.

Her career path then saw her aim high for the LPGA Tour in America and she has pursued her career there with a good level of success for the past eight years playing against the likes of Annika Sorenstam, Si Re Pak and Karrie Webb on a regular basis.

While Joanne’s career has seen her travel to every golfing corner of the world there is nothing she likes better than to return home to Sale and meet up with her old friends and generally chill out. But she is always on hand to help out and support with any junior cause in the region and her commitment to her annual Junior Challenge sees her playing with and encouraging the talent of the future.

The thanks of WGTB and junior golfers in the area go to Joanne for her help and we look forward to seeing her in October at Sale with the finalists who make it through to the big day.
