WGTB Son Parc Golf Mixed American Greensome at Styal

Chorlton duo shine in the sun at Styal

A GOOD field of mixed pairs which included several previous winners enjoyed a glorious day at Styal Golf Club.

With perfect weather, a pristine course and excellent off-course hospitality the popular American Foursome Stableford format again proved to be a hit with several pairs being new to the format looking to introduce it back at their own clubs.

Big scores looked to be on the cards in the ideal conditions from some able and competitive pairs and so it proved to be with several duos posting scores in the forties.

Competition Winners Brian & Lynne Croston

Chorlton stalwarts Brian and Lynne Croston have been WGTB regulars for many years without being able to win a top prize but they had a day to remember with a dream prize of a week to enjoy at the superb Son Parc Golf Club, owned by Bramhall’s Hugh Brown, in the beautiful island of Menorca.
They will be able to invite two friends to enjoy a week’s accommodation and golf at the Son Parc complex.

Lynne is usually known for her accurate driving and inconsistent putting but on this day she reversed this to putt ‘as she has never done before’ which concluded with a 30-foot tram-liner for a birdie three on the 18th to post a magnificent 49 points.

And it was the putt that counted as hot on their heels with 48 points were WGTB regulars Brian and Gillian Watkins from Frodsham.

They carded 24 points in each half and were delighted to win vouchers to purchase top class golfing goods from Golfino in Knutsford.

Chorlton were in the prizes again as David and Val Mawson won a cpo on 43 points to take third place and win a round for four players at Mottram Hall.

Runners-Up Gillian & Brian Watkins

Claiming seven balls each for ‘Twos’ were Rosemary van Ross, Jackie Catlow, Pat Daly, Carol Hood, Barbara Elliott and Pauline Barlow.
