WGTB Days Out Final 2011

DE Vere Mottram Hall provided a spectacular stage for the second year in succession for another fantastic final for the WGTB Days Out Algarve Challenge.

With many great prizes on offer the 25 pairs who qualified from the earlier rounds were part of a full house of over 90 players for a great climax to another great season of competition.

It was always going to be to be tight in the battle to win a place on a golf group holiday on the Algarve courtesy of main sponsor Peter Walsh of Fairway Holidays.

Denton’s Days Out debut duo of Leon Hewson and Steve Warrender had made their mark in their first competition at Chorlton when they won with 48 points and they were consistent scorers throughout the series.

The other major prize on offer was the Mike Brennan Trophy for the best four Aggregate scores and there were deserving winners in WGTB regulars Steve McDermott (Turton) and Terry Dallimore (Hart Common).

Their reward for high-level consistency was a superb two-night stay at the fabulous five star Bovey Castle Hotel and golf resort in Devon.

On a Mottram course, fresh from a recent Euro Pro competition, in a challenging mood they set the early pace with a fine haul of 45 points as many pairs faltered along the way.

In the end their nearest challenge came from Malcolm Crowson and Colin Piece of Wychwood Park and Willow Valley with 43 points leaving them two shots adrift of the dynamic Denton duo who were absolutely delighted to win such a magnificent prize.

The runners-up also won a great prize of a golfing break at Marriott Worsley Park.

The top day prize was taken by John Hignett and Neil Harrison with 42 points and they took another fine prize of Snooper range-finders as they won a cpo from Tytherington’s Peter Davies and Fred Bridge who will enjoy a round for four at Marriott Breadsall Priory.

WGTB stalwarts Tony Gregory (Stockport) and Charles Beadle (Bramhall) brought the usual sting in the tail as they took Nike shirts after winning a cpo on 41 points from North Wales stars Terry and Nigel Chaplin who also won Nike shirts.

The final day prize of bags, brollies and gift sets went to sponsor Slater Heelis guests Harry Partington and Ian Cochrane who also carded 41 points.

Nearest the pin prizes of Scottsdale vouchers went to sponsor Graham Onlin and Gorsty Hill’s Dave Dolman with John Murdoch a less than delighted winner of the Shortest Drive Trophy.

Twelve players recorded ‘Two’s and they each received five balls.
