WGTB Club Trophy Final 2011 |

DENTON Golf Club provided a fitting
stage for the final of the 22nd WGTB Club Trophy final. Their challenging course was in pristine condition for the 16 pairs in the final and they were hosted superbly by all of the staff and club officials in their splendid modern clubhouse. As well as the WGTB Club Trophy there were plenty of excellent prizes on offer for the 32 players in the final who had battled their way through over three match-play rounds against hundreds of other players from the 14 invited clubs.

It took something special to win on the
day and the WOW factor came from Sale’s Steve Hall and Mike Smith who posted
a tremendous 43 points to take the trophy back to Sale for the first time
since 1989 on the dynamic duo’s first final appearance. As well as taking the trophy back to their club they will be looking to enjoy memorable golfing breaks at the top venues of Marriott Breadsall Priory and QHotels who were the main sponsors of the competition. |

Next in on 39 points were their playing
partners and home duo, Steve O’Shaughnessy and Mark Whittaker with Steve
fresh back from Spain the early hours enjoying his third successive final
appearance. They too were delighted to win a fantastic golfing break at the Aston Hotel in Dumfries. There was a logjam of four pairs on 38 points with the complicated cpo going in favour of Trophy regulars Dennis Hand and Steve Watson of Withington who won round for four at De Vere Wychwood Park. |

They edged out playing partners and
twice previous winners Colin Barr and Paul Wheelton of Reddish Vale who won
a round for four at De Vere Oulton Hall. Completing the prize list were another Reddish pair in Graham Taylor and Jamie Greig who will enjoy a round for four at Chorlton GC. |

Nearest the pin prizes went to Graham
Cavanagh (Dukinfield) and Paul Wheelton with three Twos being posted by
Steve Watson, Graham Cavanagh and Alan Newell (Stamford). On hand to present the prizes were Denton’s Captain and President to complete another great finals day. Cheadle Golf Club made an impressive debut in the competition in 2011 and they will host the 2012 final on Sunday September 16. |
