3D Motion Analysis at Styal

COACHING at the Cheshire Golf Academy at Styal has leaped into the 21st century with the arrival of ‘3D Motion Analysis’.

Over the past ten years, video and computer analysis have become common place amongst the golf coaching ranks and have been the most effective way to analyse a golfer’s swing, until now!

Mark Johnson, a Golf Professional based at Styal, has been working in partnership with Mark Bull of Total Go lf Analysis (TGA) based in Surrey. TGA holds the sole UK licence to what can only be described as an ‘extraordinary piece of three dimensional swing analysis equipment’.

Mark Johnson said: " Where we have previously been able to analyse the look of a swing using traditional video, this equipment can now be used to look at the crucial key components of the swing; speed, position and timing sequences. These tell us exactly how golfers use their bodies to produce power, how efficiently they move and what changes need to be made to improve.

"A key feature of the 3D system is the use of biofeedback. This consists of an audible tone that sounds when the correct movement is made. This allows the golfer to quickly feel the correct movements and greatly speeds up the learning process.

"Many a time have I heard a golfer state ‘I wish there was something that would give me an electric shock every time I lift my head’. Well now there is, only a lot less painful!

The 3D sessions are geared towards any golfer who is serious about improving their game, be they a relative beginner or a seasoned Professional. The system has been used by thousands of elite Amateurs and Professional golfers around the World. Since Mark introduced the system at Styal everyone who has had the opportunity to have a 3D session has been full of praise for 3D.

Ex-Captain Mike Hinde stated: "There is no better way for me to see and understand what is right and what is wrong with my swing - it is truly awesome! I would definitely recommend a 3D session with Mark to anyone."

Styal’s young star Adrian Dobson was delighted with what he found out in his session.

He said: "The system was able to highlight a fundamental flaw in my swing and it was easy to correct it using the advice from Mark and seeing immediately an improvement which I could work on and develop."

England and Walker Cup star David Horsey, who has just turned professional has used the system over the past 12 months, added: "3D has given me an extra insight into my swing and has identified areas that can still be further improved."
