Hat-Trick For Jon |

GATLEY professional Jon Cheetham
completed a hat-trick of wins in the Manchester and District Alliance stroke
play championships at Mere sponsored by Mere member Jon Gallagher
representing Srixon. A full house of nearly 90 players enjoyed a mere course in fine condition considering recent weather problems and there were a string of good scores in both the professional and amateur sections. Denton pro Mike Hollingworth set a hot pace in the opening round with a birdie-strewn 66 to lead in by four shots from his former assistant David Green, now the Dukinfield professional and Alliance life member and European Tour seniors star Denis Durnian. |

Jon Cheetham Receives His Trophies From Alliance President John Dowd |
| There were plenty of other top pros in the low 70’s including Jon Cheetham with a 71. |
|
|
Andy Palmer (Chorley) was the top
amateur on 70 with Oliver Smith (Davyhulme Park) 71 and Lee Irving (Marriott
Worsley Park) and Neil Self (Stand) both on 72. But the second round returns saw the pendulum swing away from the early leaders with Cheetham, who won the title in 2003 and 2006 setting the pace with a 68 which included five birdies for a final winning total of 138. It gave Jon both the George Duncan Trophy as the top pro and the Challenge Trophy as the overall winner. |

Iain Davie Receives His Trophy |
| Next in was Bury assistant pro Sean Doherty with 71/70-141 and Mike Hollingworth 142. |
| Cheshire stroke play champion Iain Davie (Hazel Grove) showed his class with rounds of 73 and 70 for a 143 total to win the Amateur Championship Trophy from Ciaran Doherty, (Bury) and Oliver Smith who both ended with 147 totals. |
