Davenport Retain Top Trophy

DAVENPORT professional Tony Stevens was delighted to be the sponsor for the playing of the White Cup for Mixed pairs at the traditional venue of Chorlton Golf Club.

A good field of Manchester Alliance players enjoyed a day of Mersey Riviera sunshine on a well prepared and dry course.

At the end of the day there was even more delight for Tony as he was able to present his Davenport assistant Graham Cox and his partner Linda Lomax with the White Cup to see his club retain the coveted trophy.

They posted 37 points in the pro am section to fend off the strong challenge from Hancock Trophy holders David Smith and Carolyn Bentley with 36 points and Jimmy and Sue Lister (Denton) with 35.
The top am am score of 30 points came from Alliance regular Jimmy O’Reilly and his Swinton Park colleague Fran Dukes who were a point clear of Mick Holmes and Michelle Pretty, the new Lady Captain of Cheadle, and Manchester duo Steve Toole and Tracey Capal.

It was also good to see Chorley’s Ladies European Tour star Lora Fairclough return to action with her club colleague Bill Bromilow.
