Disley Win Epic Final |
|
|
THE Archie Preston
Trophy for the Mixed Foursomes Club Knock Out is one of the most keenly
contested competitions in the extensive programme of the Manchester and
District Alliance with well over 80 clubs in the competition. Reaching the final, staged at last year’s winning club Denton, were the teams of seven ladies and seven men from Tytherington and Disley. The final had to be abandoned after a few holes due to torrential rain but was restaged a couple of weeks later and it proved to be a nerve-jangling competition being so typical of Mixed Foursomes matches with fortunes changing by the minute. |

Disley team ready to celebrate |
|
Disley Captain
Steve Kewley and Lady Captain Barbra Williamson set the example for their
team as they won the opening match 3/2 to follow their own success in the
Disley Mixed Fourosmes this year. Tony Collinson and Helen Yeomans continued the good news as they won their opening match by 4/3. But Tytherington hit back to level with wins over Matt Hill and Liz Crichlow and Phil Housley and Margaret Clarke. Andy Timmins and Viv Hudson kept their nerve to put Disley back on top winning their game on the 18th. Tytherington again came back well to level with a 2/1 win over John Aitcheson and Ann Booth and out on the course in the final match John Stockley and Jayne Byatte trailed by three holes with five to play with Tytherington getting ready to celebrate. But John and Jane raised Disley spirits to a frenzy as they won the next four holes to go into the 18th one up. And it needed nerves of steel in front of a packed clubhouse as John calmly holed an eight-footer to halve the hole and win the tie for Disley who celebrated long and hard after an epic contest superbly contested by both teams and hosted in impeccable style by Denton. |
