Lancashire County Ladies Golf

2008 Silver Slipper Event

Gill Takes The Whiskey

THE Lancashire Ladies Vets Silver Slipper Medal Competition for the Bronze division was held at Westhoughton Golf Club with the winner receiving the trophy and a replica which she will retain.

There is a winner and a best gross and then there are four Categories-Category A Age 65-69  Category B Age 70-74. Category C 75.79 Category D Aged 80 and above of which there were two entries.

It was a difficult day with very strong winds and there were several No Returns.

The sixth hole at Westhoughton is rather problematical, with a pond to cross and internal out of bounds down the right hand side.

There were so many stories in the club house re this hole, so the President Valerie Hyman decided to give a bottle of whiskey to the player with the highest score at the hole and the record at the club is 15.

The West Lanc's Lady Captain Gil Wilson was the lucky or unlucky winner depending which way you look at the prize having taken 14 to complete the hole.
