Brian & Mike In Fairways Double

ROMILEY Golf Club were again perfect hosts as they staged another fine Fairway Holidays Pairs Classic.

And it proved to be another day to remember for Brian Power of North Manchester and Mike Shaw of Swinton Park as they provided the sting in the tail to dash the double hopes of last year’s winners Lee Parr and Peter O’Neill of Swinton Park.

Peter and Lee had set the early marker as they returned a superb score of 41 points off their respective handicaps of three and two.

There was a logjam of four pairs on 40 points also in the prizes awaiting the last group out of Styal’s Bob Mannia and David Williams with Brian and Mike.

A superb finish of three pars each yielding three points lifted them to 43 points as clear winners and with a great trip of a competition week in the Algarve in 2008.

Peter Walsh from Fairway Holidays was on hand to give out the main prize and also offer all finalists £50 off any holiday they take with the company over the next 12 months.

The winning pair had recently also won the Fairways Holidays Cork Challenge at Birchwood Golf Club to make it a memorable season for them.

For the runners-up there is a great trip to the Menzies Hotel and Golf Club near Cambridge to enjoy as consolation for their defeat.

The winners of the cpo on 40 points for third place went to Denton’s Peter Bolger and Leon Hewson with an excellent back nine of 23 points.

Their reward was a top of the range 10x50DCF Sports binoculars supplied by leading UK manufacturer Optical Hardware.

Next in with 22 points on the back nine were Trevor Lush (Davenport) and Mark Green (Disley) who won a round for four at Northenden Golf Club giving them the opportunity to test out the club’s great new greens.
