Dukinfield Ready For A Memorable Year

DUKINFIELD Golf Club members are looking forward with eager anticipation to a great 2010 that sees their redesigned course become ready for play.

Their superb new clubhouse was opened just over a year ago and members and visitors have been enjoying its fine facilities and awaiting the new holes and redesigned holes to come into play.

They will extend the course by over 1000 yards and increase the par by three shots and also remove several holes that were bottlenecks on the course.

The New Clubhouse Opened In 2009

Club secretary Bob Winterbottom said: "We have been involved in all of the trials and tribulations of such a big development for well over three years through planning and execution and it has demanded a great deal of patience from members during what have sometimes been difficult times.

"But this patience will be rewarded as four new holes, all to USGA standards will be ready for the new season and two more holes will be ready soon afterwards.

"The course has been extended from 5,338 yards to 6,400 yards and there will be a good variety of slopes and hazards.

"We have had a great deal of help from Senior Golf Construction who have done the work on the course and all of the work will continue to be monitored by turf consultants STRI.

"The new putting green outside the clubhouse, which has outstanding views across Tameside, Oldham and Manchester, will also be an attractive feature and we have marked this with a special stone to mark the contribution from club stalwart Mr R.F Astle who donated the money for its construction.

"As always Dukinfield Golf Club, who are justifiably proud of their development of junior golf, welcomes visitors and new members and for more information about what the club can offer:
