Disley Pair Win The Cardrona Pairs Classic After A Card Play Off

Better later than never was the cry as a full field of 84 Ladies set out to capture the superb prizes on offer in the WGTB Ladies Pairs Classic at Disley Golf Club.

The event having to be re-scheduled from its original date in July, which this coincided with the monsoon season.

Thankfully the conditions were more benign then we have experienced this summer, however despite a stiff breeze, grey skies and the odd light shower the standard of play was of the highest order.

With 9 of the 42 Pairs carding scores of 40 plus it was a long and nervous wait for the 5 pairs in the clubhouse on 41 points all hoping they had done enough to capture one of the top prizes.

There was always a likely sting in the tail and it was no surprise when two of the late pairing came home with 43 points, to set up another dramatic cpo to decide the winners. The countback going to the back 6  in favour of Disley's Lady Vice Captain Margaret Clarke and her young partner Helen Yeomans to take the first prize of a Golfing Break at the McDonalds Cardrona Hotel in Peebles Scotland.

The competition runners-up spot going to the Brookdale Lady Capt Diane Williams and Lady Vice Captain Margaret Coleman who were equally delighted with receiving the Golfino Sportswear Vouchers as Runners-Up.

Third place went to the host club Disley with the pairing of Eunice Beesley and Gill Robinson who received a voucher for a round of golf for 4 at Mottram Hall for their score of 41 points.

Completing the major prize winners on the day were the pairing of Sophia Casey and Jean Nield representing Sale and Bramall Park who took home Statuettes supplied by In-House the Cheadle based soft furnishing specialists.

Golfino Sportswear the internationally renowned sportswear company who specialise in top quality golf clothing are new sponsors to the WGTB Event this year and have made a big hit with the players with their superb prizes for the two events where they have been major prize sponsors.

Michelle Goodrich store manager for both the Wilmslow and Cheshire Oaks Outlets was on hand to meet with the competitors who all enjoyed receiving a £10 Golfino Voucher to use at the store.

Nearest The Pin In 2 at the 252 yard 16th hole was home club player Elizabeth Critchlow who put the ball within two feet of the hole and made no mistake with the putt to make birdie.

Both players received a pair of Compact Sports Binoculars supplied by Optical Hardware one of the U.K leading suppliers of Optical Instruments

The Two’s competition yielded 15 Balls each for Gail Hegarty, Shirley Brown, Myra Clark and Doris Walker.
