WGTB Day's Out At Reddish Vale |
|
|
REDDISH Vale Golf Club pulled out all
the stops to make this competition a terrific starting point for the busy
WGTB season to come. All at the club, both on and off the course, played their part to make this a really memorable experience for many players making their first visit to this true hidden gem designed by Dr Alister Mackenzie, the designer of the Masters course at Augusta and containing holes which are among the favourites of the great Henry Cotton. After playing on muddy courses and with others being shut just a few days before the event it was a real treat to play on dry, firm fairways and an excellently presented course. |

Winners Alan Simmons & Simon Nicholson With Reddish Vale Captain Malcolm Hamilton |
|
It proved to be a good day for prize
sponsors with Simon Nicholson of Marstons Brewery – our new sponsors for
nearest the pin prizes steered WGTB’s Alan Simmons to his first-ever Days
Out win with a fine haul of 43 points. Simon also won the nearest the pin in two to win a sample of his own products which he duly gave away to playing partners Effion Howatson and Mat Williams who narrowly missed the prize after Effion's was unable to get his eagle putt for a two at the 310 yard Par 4 Hole after his superb tee shot hit the green. |
|
The other nearest the pin prize was
taken by Rob Sutton of Withington Golf Club and Hi Tech Solutions who kindly
donated National County Cards and annual subscriptions to the new ‘Chip and
Spin’ magazine. There were five ‘Twos’ secured giving 12 balls each to Rob Sutton, Ernie Molloy, Philip Morley, Tom Cook and Gilbert Pierce. Also in the main prizes and being the first qualifiers for the September final at Northenden were Philip Morley and Martyn Schofield (Dukinfield) 42, Mike Clements and Mike Keyworth (Denton) 41, Alan Lawrence and Hadge Lowe (Walmersley) 40 and last but by far from least Reddish Vale Captain Malcolm Hamilton and greens chairman Steve Marsh, also on 40 Points.
