WGTB Day's Out At Chorlton-cum-Hardy |

Debutants Rule The Day |
|
|
CHORLTON Golf Club once more provided an
excellent venue for a WGTB competition and a full field of players enjoyed a
course in fine condition while their every need was catered for superbly off
the course. The sponsor for the day was Days Out regular Terry Watson of Letter Press and Litho Print Engineers. The pristine course lent itself to some high scoring which was reflected in the huge number of ‘Twos’ with 17 players each receiving three balls for their accuracy. |

Dave Moss and John Bird with Terry Watson |
| Early starters and WGTB debutants Dave Moss and John Bird from Houldsworth had a long wait for success after posting a challenging 47 points, which included five birdies as well as a ‘blob’ on the ninth hole. |
|
Their opening nine-hole score of 20
points gave little hint of the drama to come as they posted a huge 27 points
over the back nine holes to eventually gain an emphatic three point win. The nearest challengers were congested on 44 points with Fairway Holidays sponsor Peter Walsh finding an ideal partner in Wilmslow’s John Eardley whose back nine of 25 points saw them into the runners-up slot from Gary Morgan and George Williams (Denbigh), Terry and Nigel Chaplin (Abergele), Brian Ankers and Les French (Lymm) with Eifon Howatson and Matthew Williams just missing out on a qualifying slot. Alan Lawrence won the nearest the pin on the fourth hole then contrived to miss an 18 inch putt for a Two and Gary Morgan powered his tee shot over the trees on the 18th to set up a chance to putt the ball within a few inches of the hole to take the Nearest The pin in Two prize with both winners set to enjoy some great products from Marstons Brewery as their reward. |

Special mention also to Eric Waugh for posting five birdies in a terrific round. The final ‘honour’ went to John Duff of Northenden for his ‘massive’ drive of 95 yards to win the special trophy for the shortest drive on the first hole.
